Hey There! Chris Baxter here from Aeva AI receptionist for Healthcare.
Yesterday over a call with a practitioner wanting to learn more about Aeva, they asked me something that made me stop…and think.
“Chris, tell me, why should I hire an AI receptionist?”
It made me think about every single one of our customers, and what they truely get out of using Aeva.
I have tried to summarise this to every different benefit we have been seeing, but let me know if I’ve missed any.
Here it goes.
Time. Your most precious resource
One of our practitioners used to spend every working day full of patient appointments. Before dawn and long after sunset he’d be doing admin, returning calls, playing catch-up.
It was wearing him and his family down.
Now, with an AI handling incoming calls, especially outside core hours, he finally has space. He goes to the gym without worrying about being interrupted. He’s in control of his time again. And what a difference that makes for him, and for his patients.
Bookings. The ones who called when no one was there
Here’s something I see a lot in bigger clinics: there is a receptionist team during the day, doing their best. But evenings, when the line’s busy and weekends? No calls answered. People try, hear an answer machine, give up. They rarely leave voicemails. They just move on, often to a clinic that does pick up.
Aeva’s helped clinics plug that gap. It’s not about forcing calls, it’s about giving those potential patients somewhere to land rather than losing them by default.
Professionalism. The test nobody wants but everyone faces
One of our practice owners said this:
“Until recently I was taking calls mid consultation which was very unprofessional and a bit embarrassing, but what else was I supposed to do?”

Here’s his Aeva review if you want to hear it in his own voice: Video
I see that in many clinics: trying to juggle treating someone and having the phone ring. You pause. You lose flow. The patient in front of you feels under valued. It’s messy.
Aeva steps in so you’re fully present in each interaction, whether with the person in the room, or the person on the call.
Future‑proofing. Expectations are changing
Patients expect more than “please leave a voicemail or book online, we’ll call you back.” If you rely on that, you risk sending the message that you’re too busy for them, and that the patient isn’t important.
With someone (or something) always answering, day or night, patients do feel more valued. Even one missed call can be enough to push someone to a competitor, simply because they felt ignored.
Those still leaning on voicemail are going to lose ground. Those who make sure every call is engaged with win trust, repeat business, referrals.
So… “Why should I hire an AI receptionist?”
Because it’s not about replacing you. And it’s not about replacing receptionists.
It’s about protecting your time. Removing constant interruptions so you can focus on your job. Making sure every patient gets a reliable, professional experience. Giving your clinic the chance to be available when others aren’t, without burning you out.
When that practitioner asked me that question, I couldn’t stop thinking about how many people are still trying to do everything, squeezing admin into early mornings, taking calls between patients, missing bookings that should’ve been easy wins.
That one question made me reflect on just how much weight Aeva is quietly lifting behind the scenes. And how hard practitioners work to hold it all together before they get support.
It's a reminder of what we're here for and how much further we’ve still got to go.
P.S. One more thing. For those waiting to take deposit payments over the phone. That feature’s almost ready to go live. We’ll be rolling it out in Beta this coming Monday. Can’t wait to see how it helps free up even more of your day and stop no shows.
Keep innovating,
Chris Baxter
