Hey friends - Chris here, from Aeva AI Receptionists for Cliniko
This week I want to pull back the curtain and show you something we’ve been working on for months. Something that powers every Aeva AI call, yet most people never realise how deep the process goes.
We just wrapped up training our brand-new British receptionist voice, and it’s going live for all UK customers next week. (I’ve included an audio preview below)
But first, if you’re in New Zealand or Australia you should know:
You’re already ahead of the curve.
Our NZ and AU voices were trained the same way, from scratch, with real receptionists in real studios.
That voice answering your calls right now? It’s not some generic AI. It’s crafted.
And next week, the UK joins that lineup.
But we’re not stopping there.
Long-term, our goal is to do this for every country our customers are in.
Wherever you're based, we want your receptionist to sound familiar, local, and genuinely human. That means building voices not just by accent, but by culture, tone, and how people actually speak on the phone.
This British voice is just the next step in that bigger journey.

Why We’re Building Voices From Scratch
Most reception AI platforms grab generic voices off a shelf which are quick, cheap, “good enough.” (That’s where we started too). But it’s not where we stayed.
Because answering the phone and really owning that moment of first contact. Requires more than a pleasant voice and a nice accent.
It has to sound like someone who’s knows the job. Someone who can reassure a customer, be compassionate when needed, and make them feel like they have called the right clinic.
So we do something no one else does:
We hire real receptionists.
We put them in a studio.
And we spend hours walking through hundreds of real-world call flows.
Tricky customer interactions, awkward silences, mispronounced names, the works.
We capture their voice at its best, then clone it using the worlds leading voice AI hosting platform called Eleven Labs.
The result is a voice that sounds natural. Calm. Human.

Why This Voice Matters So Much to Us
Building these new voices reminds me why we started Aeva in the first place.
I still remember the first time I heard one of our AI voices handle a real phone call. It was surreal, but it also made something click. It wasn’t just about automation. It was about trust.
The patient calling your clinic isn’t calling to press buttons or get passed around. They want to feel looked after, even if it's just to leave a message.
Those first voices worked. But they were far from perfect. So we started refining. Not with tech alone, but with people. We began working with real receptionists, those who’ve answered thousands of calls themselves and recorded everything: every question, every answer, every little shift in tone. That’s what led to our NZ and AU voices. And now, finally, the British voice joins that same standard.
When we say we “train” a voice, it’s not some automated script or random dataset. It’s sitting in a room, going line by line, retaking a sentence because the smile didn’t quite come through, or because we needed to soften the way “appointment” was said in a moment of stress.
It’s not fast. And it’s not cheap. But it’s what makes Aeva different.
We're not just giving you a voice that sounds “okay.” We're giving you a receptionist you can be proud to have answering your phone.
This is what we’re committed to. Because your front desk deserves that level of care, even if it's AI. And every time you trust Aeva to take that call, we take it seriously.
Thanks for being on this journey with us.
We’re just getting started.
Onwards 🚀,
