Hey there! Chris here from Aeva AI receptionist for Cliniko.
Above, is still the number one question I get before a clinic starts with Aeva.
It’s always asked carefully. Thoughtfully, towards their patients.
Because clinics don’t serve AI enthusiasts.
They serve retirees. Grandparents. Normal people who’ve been calling the same reception desk for 15 years.
So when we built Aeva, we knew one thing:
If it didn’t work for them, it wouldn’t work at all.
A call that shouldn’t have gone well
One of our clinics had recently gone live.
They’d named their AI receptionist Maya.
Shortly after launch, Maya answered a call from a 78-year-old Czech lady.
English was the patient’s second language.
And she had never spoken to artificial intelligence before.
Now think about that combination.
If there’s a scenario where it shouldn’t work, this is probably it.
But Maya the AI receptionist answered.
Guided her calmly.
Clarified details.
Booked the appointment correctly.
When the patient came in for her appointment, she said she’d never spoken to artificial intelligence before and that it had been an easy and fun experience.
78 years old.
English as a second language.
First time ever speaking to AI.
Easy and fun.
We haven’t tried to build the ‘flashiest’ AI receptionist.
We set out to build the one patients forget is AI.
That was the obsession from day one.
Not:
“How advanced can we make it?”
But:
“Would my mum feel comfortable calling this?”
The voice AI space is moving fast.
Models are improving monthly.
Latency is dropping.
Autonomy is increasing.
Agents are getting smarter.
We’re using the best of that.
But raw capability isn’t the finish line.
In healthcare, the breakthrough isn’t making AI more impressive.
It’s making it more appropriate.
That 78-year-old patient probably does not realise she just validated months of product decisions.
But she did.
That is the kind of progress I care about most.
Every call counts,
