Hey there! Chris here from Aeva AI receptionist for healthcare.
Have you ever been in a situation where a system goes above and beyond your expectations and just blows you away?
Well, that’s exactly what we’re trying to make every call Aeva takes feel like.
This week I heard a story where that happened spot on. It reminded me exactly why we’re doing this, and why it means so much to get the details right. Luckily, the practice owner allowed me to share it.

Pregnant patient’s AI story
A pregnant lady who had an appointment booked in with her practitioner had to rush to the hospital to have her baby.
On the way, she happened to remember that she had an upcoming appointment and needed to cancel it.
She called the practice to let them know and was met by the AI receptionist. Not expecting anything special, she just said she wanted to cancel. When Aeva asked to confirm the reason, she shared that she was on her way to the hospital to have her baby.
The AI confirmed the cancellation, took down the reason and responded with a warm:
"Oh and congratulations in advance for the baby!"
The lady burst into laughter. She couldn’t believe an AI was congratulating her. She’d never heard that from any other phone bot before. She was amazed, and told the practice how impressed she was with the experience.
Where Trust Is Actually Formed
Whenever someone says to me, “AI will never be able to make a patient feel understood,”
These are the stories I think of.
When AI can not only ensure a person feels heard but also show compassion, warmth, and excitement. That’s when true trust can be placed in it.
And that’s exactly the feeling we strive for at Aeva.
When someone says their back pain is severe and they need to see someone urgently, Aeva responds:
"I’m really sorry to hear you’re experiencing so much pain. Let me help get you booked in to our earliest available appointment."
How you can instantly win with AI
Here’s the part that keeps sitting with me.
Cancellations/reschedules are still landing in voicemail at some practices.
A patient does the right thing, calls early, tries to free up their spot… and nothing happens until someone eventually checks the messages. In that gap of time, the slot stays locked. The practice looses an appointment slot.
What strikes me is how predictable this pattern is. People cancel and reschedule on Saturdays, Sundays, late at night, during the lunchtime rush, exactly when no one’s there to react. The clinic isn’t “quiet,” it’s just unavailable.
Fixing this isn’t glamorous. But it’s so important. When cancellations are dealt with instantly by a 24/7 system like an AI receptionist. Slots reopen. The week stays full. More revenue comes in the door for the practice.
This is where AI receptionists genuinely change the rhythm of a practice. Not by replacing humans, not by “automating admin,” but by protecting the flow of appointments, making sure availability stays visible, alive, and usable.
In the end, it’s these tiny operational improvements that keep a clinic running at its best. Not with more effort, but with smarter systems behind it.
Keep innovating,
