Hey there! Chris here from Aeva AI Receptionist for Healthcare.
Back in January I wrote a summary of how 2025 went for AI receptionists. Aeva had handled 100,467 calls and booked 11,820 appointments. We calculated that it had generated $1.18M in bookings for the clinics we serve.
I was proud of that number. Honestly, I still am.
So this week Louis and I did it again. We calculated the value of every booking Aeva has made since the very first clinic went live. New patients counted at what they're actually worth to a clinic over their lifetime. Existing patients counted at the average cost of the appointment they booked.
$14.5 million AUD. Around £7 million.
From 332,366 calls handled.
And 36,934 appointments booked.
Three things I believe now
Whether you use an AI receptionist or not, three things I believe now that I didn't fully believe in June 2025.
1. It was never about how many calls you miss. Most smaller clinic owners I speak to guess they miss a few a week. The problem is what a missed patient is worth. It’s not just one consult, they're a year of care. Take your missed calls, times your new patient lifetime value, and annualise it. The number isn't big because you miss a lot. It's big because every one you miss is worth so much.
2. AI earns its keep on the predictable, so your team can be human on the rest. Bookings, reschedules, "do you take Bupa", parking. Hand that over. Then watch how you have time for more sessions, or focus on growing the clinic. In our best clinics it's the receptionist looking up and smiling at the person walking in, instead of being tethered to a ringing phone.
3. It compounds quietly. Given the choice, a patient almost always would rather book with an AI right now than leave a voicemail and wait. We’ve seen that play out hundreds of thousands of times. The only condition is the solution has to be effective, reliable and sound natural. Get that right and you simply never miss a patient again.
Where it actually came from
If you've been reading since the start, you'll remember how this began.
June 2025 I sent the first of these emails. I called it a founder's log. We had a few hundred practitioners.
The first ever Aeva customer was a clinic owner in Auckland paying over $20,000 NZD a year for a human phone answering service that gave his patients a poor experience.
By September we'd crossed 1% of every Cliniko user in the world.
And now $14.5M worth of appointments booked.
Sure, some of this may have come into the clinic anyway. But a significant portion is from new business, new patients.
Here's what I love the most about it. None of that money came from a clinic working harder.
Every call counts,
